This project was a stand alone surgery center built on the CHOMP campus. The program called for underground parking, a 13,000 s.f. outpatient surgery center and 13,000 s.f. of medical outpatient space. The project was designed and constructed in 18 months. This was one of the first surgery centers to be constructed in California before there became an actual code designation for this building type. Patients enter the surgery center through the main hospital into an all floor to ceiling glass lobby with spectacular views of Monterey bay. Many of the post op private cubicles each have there own view. The surgical suite consists of 4 OR’s with windows to the bay. Surgical support areas are centrally located off of the sterile corridor. Staff enters from their own entry with staff lounge and changing facilities located to provide direct access to work areas without crossing the patient areas. Registration, Post Op, recovery and a step down area are all serviced by a central multipurpose nurse station, providing the utmost efficiency in staffing. Also included in the facility are two endoscopy suites, a laser unit and special procedure rooms. |
